Endlich habe ich "Wizard of the Pigeons" von Megan Lindholm zu Ende gelesen - was sich jetzt wahrscheinlich schlimmer anhört, als es ist. Ich habe mehrere Wochen für das Buch gebraucht, was aber eher an fehlender Zeit liegt, als an langweiliger Lektüre. Die zauberhafte Geschichte um den Vietnam-Veteran und magisch begabten Obdachlosen Wizard ist zwar etwas langatmig erzählt, wird jedoch von einer originellen und - für mich - einzigartigen Idee getragen. Megan Lindholm erzählt sprachlich ausgefeilt und liefert dem Leser wunderschöne Bilder und Einblicke in eine vom Krieg gequälte Seele.
Der Klappentext lautet wie folgt:

Der Klappentext hat mir unheimlich Lust auf die Geschichte gemacht, wobei ich sagen möchte, dass der angedeutete Konflikt gegen die "bösartige Kraft" lange auf sich warten lässt. Wer also schnelle und actionreiche Fantasy erwartet, wird wahrscheinlich enttäuscht. Diese Geschichte wird langsam, aber tiefgründig erzählt. Wir begleiten den Zauberer namens Wizard während seinem alltäglichen Leben als Obdachloser in einer Großstadt und müssen ihm dabei zusehen, wie er langsam auf eine Krise zusteuert. Mehr will ich nicht verraten.
Fazit: "Wizard of the Pigeons" lebt von poetischen Beschreibungen, fesselnden Charakteren und einer einzigartigen Idee. Wer Action sucht ist hier fehlt am Platze. Dieser Roman von Megan Lindholm (aka Robin Hobb) ist ein unterbewertetes Juwel!
