Sicher kein Zufall.

I would be interested whether you, Ekaterina, have modelled the siamese twins on somebody really existing. It seems to me very difficult to put yourself into such a position. Why don't they receive medical treatment? Normally, medicins make a try to seperate simamese twins, don't they? (or is there an answer to this question somewhere in the novel?)

I am now already reading the second part and made the observation, that the author, you, Ekaterina, obviously have included yourself in the novel, hence, there is the student that reminds Rostom very much on the children's mother and her name is the same as the author's one: Ekaterine. This is very likely not by accident, is it? What is the reason? I can't understand ....

At which time is the story set? Hence, we would expect to see the children receive medical treatment after their birth.

The novel is playing in Geirgia. How is the situation of disabled persons in Georgia? Is their any kind of help or services e.g. when having given birth to siamese twins?

I have now translated the existing questions to your book, Ekaterina. I hope, you can understand them and we will receive interesting answers.
And for me: I hope I will be able to keep track of all the entries in this chat.
Regards
Anjuta

Ekaterina, I am impressed after having read the first part of your novel and I am really asking myself, why have you chosen to write about siamese twins. It is really difficult to imagine and have a feeling about their feelings and thinkings. In how far are they individuals, in how far are they the same person? How could you come closer to this situation in order to feel able to write a novel about them?

Thank you for being interested, I appreciate it.

My inspiration were sisters from the real life. I’ve never met them face to face, but I read a lot and watched many videos about them (Abby and Brittany Hensels) . It was important that it wasn’t just my imagination - something like Medical Fantasy - but there are the real people who have to deal with such problems as absence of private space, being alone, having private life and physical freedom. Two different individuals with different desires, passions, taste and so on have to share one body… and also, they are so strange for “normal” people that they have to struggle with many unpleasant challenges in their social life. My character models are from USA, where the society is much more tolerant then for example in my country.

For me it wasn’t difficult to put myself in their place, because it’s like a symbol for human inner conflict that we all have experienced in life. I think it’s a good way to show how it feels when you face dilemmas and have to make a choice - follow your heart or mind, be emotional or irrational… these feelings are very familiar to any person and I think it’s the way to understand how complicated can be controversial ideas, different decisions - two souls - in one body.

As to separation, if you go on internet and see these girls, you will realize better, that in this case it’s absolutely impossible.
Thank you, Ekaterina

I am interested in understanding, how you, Ekaterina, picked this issue for the novel, since it seems to me a highly special one ...

Thank you for being interested, I appreciate it.

For me these twins symbolize inner conflict of human being that we all have experienced in life. I think it’s a good way to show how it feels when you face dilemmas and have to make a choice between following your heart or mind, being emotional or irrational… these feelings are very familiar to people and I think it’s the way to understand how complicated can be controversial ideas, different decisions - two souls - in one body. It is a tragedy of two individuals with one life and two deaths.

I am interested in knowing why the grandmother did not consult a doctor.

Doctors can never separate such kind of conjoined twins or one will die - they share some vital organs and you can do nothing with it. If you are interested in this case, you can go on internet and search for Abby and Brittany Hensels, you will understand the biology of this conjoined body better.

This is a story of two individuals and if we say that the main human fair is loneliness in this case the main problem is absence of it, absence of freedom and private life.
